General information about the MOOC series
Welcome to the Digital Citizenship MOOC series!
What?
The DiCiMOOC series by the Democracy Center Vienna is a free continuing education program on the topic of digital citizenship. It offers a well-founded overview of the role of online and social media in the context of democracy and political education. The content of the DiCiMOOCs promotes digital citizenship and digital literacy, with lessons focusing on specific topics such as fake news, conspiracy narratives and hate speech.
Why?
Online and social media play an important role as a source of information and communication in democratic societies. It is therefore necessary to reflect on the possibilities for participatory action, but also on the dangers of these types of media. In this context, the DiCiMOOC series offers courses on the topic of digital citizenship with different focal points.
Who is it for?
This series is primarily addressing teachers and multipliers, who on the one hand would like to expand their competences and knowledge in this subject area, and on the other hand would like to gain a sound basis for integrating this topic into their own educational work. In principle, however, the MOOC series is open to all interested parties; no previous knowledge is required.
How does it work?
All MOOCs are divided into 3 units that build on each other and offer links to each other in terms of content and methodology. Each unit contains explanatory videos, informational texts, work assignments, exercises, forum discussions and didactic suggestions as well as a final quiz.
