Gernot Pottlacher
Associate Professor Gernot Pottlacher, Dipl.-Ing., Dr., completed his habilitation in experimental physics in 1999 and teaches at the Institute of Experimental Physics, Petersgasse 16, A-8010 Graz.
In 1982, he completed his degree in Physics at Graz University of Technology; in 1985, he passed the teaching qualification examination in Physics and completed the associated teacher training at the University of Education, Graz. In 1987, he was awarded a Doctorate in Technical Sciences.
Since 1982, he has been involved in setting up demonstration experiments for the Experimental Physics 1 and 2 lectures held by Prof. Dr H. Jäger. Since 1999, he has been delivering, amongst other things, the lecture ‘Physics for Civil Engineers’. He heads the Thermal and Metallurgical Physics working group at the institute. His particular hobby is public experimental lectures; his Christmas lectures on a wide variety of topics have already become legendary – in 2012, for example, ‘99 Experiments with Candles’.
Alexander Schmon
Alexander Schmon, a graduate engineer, has been a research assistant at the Institute of Experimental Physics at Graz University of Technology since 2011. He is working on his doctoral thesis within the Thermophysics and Metal Physics research group, led by Associate Professor Gernot Pottlacher. In addition to his teaching duties, he assists Dr Pottlacher with his regular public experimental lectures.
