The course consists of four modules covering different aspects of climate-oriented risk management for cultural and natural heritage. From the impacts of climate change and the role of the Risk Manager to digital tools and collaborative approaches, the modules provide a comprehensive overview of current challenges and solutions for managing climate-related risks.

Module 1: Endangered Heritage and Systematic Protection
The course begins with an introduction to the impacts of climate change on cultural and natural heritage. Participants gain an overview of climate-related hazards, different types of heritage, and their specific risk profiles. The module also highlights the importance of systematic risk management for the protection of cultural and natural heritage and introduces the objectives and approaches of the INACO project. 

Module 2: The Role, Skills and Integration of the Risk Manager 
The second module focuses on the professional profile of the Risk Manager for Cultural and Natural Heritage. It explores the competences, responsibilities, and challenges associated with this role, as well as its integration into existing administrative and organisational structures. In addition, participants are introduced to competence networks and internationally recognised risk management standards, including ISO 31000. 

Module 3: Strategies and Tools for Heritage Risk Management 
The third module focuses on practical strategies, methodologies, and digital tools. Participants gain insights into the risk management tools developed within the INACO project and their application in hazard, risk, and vulnerability assessment. The module also addresses different types of climate-related hazards and suitable prevention, preparedness, and response measures. 

Module 4: Stakeholder Cooperation and Expert Networks 
The final module addresses cooperation and networking in risk management. It focuses on stakeholder analysis, interinstitutional cooperation, collaboration with emergency response organisations, and the development of expert networks. In addition, participants are introduced to the basics of disaster management and the planning of practical exercises.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

• explain the impacts of climate change on cultural and natural heritage;
• identify and assess climate-related hazards, vulnerabilities, and risk factors affecting cultural and natural heritage;
• describe the roles, responsibilities, competences, and fields of practice of a Risk Manager for Cultural and Natural Heritage;
• apply the principles of risk management according to ISO 31000 to cultural and natural heritage protection;
• apply methods for hazard, risk, and vulnerability assessment;
• evaluate and use digital risk management tools for analysis, evaluation, and decision support;
• assess and derive appropriate measures for prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery in the context of climate-related risks;
• identify relevant stakeholders in the field of cultural and natural heritage protection and foster cooperation among heritage institutions, public authorities, academia, and emergency response organisations.

No prior knowledge is required to participate in this course. The course language is English.

Participants interested in expanding and deepening their knowledge may also enrol in the MOOC “CHePiCC online – Cultural Heritage Protection in Climate Change online”. The course covers, among other topics, the impacts of climate change on cultural heritage, risks and hazards, climate change adaptation strategies, as well as measures for cultural heritage protection and disaster risk management.

Kurzus ütemterve

The MOOC is designed as a self-paced course and can be completed anytime and anywhere. The learning content is organised into four modules and is delivered through short video lectures by international experts in the fields of cultural and natural heritage protection, risk management, climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and public administration.

The modules complement one another to form a comprehensive learning experience, but they can also be completed independently. This allows participants to tailor their individual learning path according to their interests and professional needs. 

Quizzes enable participants to assess their learning progress and help reinforce the key concepts and content covered in each module.

For actively participating in the course you will receive an automatic certificate which includes your name, the course name as well as the completed lessons. We want to point out that this certificate merely confirms that you answered at least 75% of the self-assessment questions correctly.
