This MOOC is designed for students transitioning to upper secondary school – whether you want to review, fill gaps or simply feel more confident in math.

The course includes short, easy-to-understand video lessons and interactive self-assessment questions. You can learn at your own pace – anytime, anywhere.

📅 The course is open at all times and takes about 5–8 hours to complete, depending on your pace.

🧠 To complete the course, you need to answer at least 75% of the self-assessment questions correctly. You’ll then receive an automatically generated certificate of participation.

Learning goals

 

After completing this course, you will be able to:

🔢 Understand and use fractions

  • correctly name numerator, denominator and fraction bar
  • identify fractions from everyday examples and visual representations (e.g. circle, bar, number line)
  • convert improper fractions to mixed numbers – and vice versa
  • compare, order, simplify and extend fractions
  • switch between fraction, decimal and percentage forms

Calculate with fractions

  • add and subtract fractions with the same or different denominators
  • multiply and divide fractions (including reciprocal and complex fractions)
  • apply calculation rules confidently

🧮 Work with algebraic fractions

  • identify, name and simplify algebraic fractions
  • determine the domain (denominator must not be zero)
  • add, subtract, multiply and divide simple algebraic fractions

📈 Understand and apply percentages

  • perform percentage calculations and interpret results in context
  • interpret diagrams (e.g. pie, bar, column charts) with percentages
  • calculate discounts, markups and changes

Prerequisites

You don’t need any special prior knowledge for this course – everything is explained step by step.

This course is especially designed for students who:

  • are completing lower secondary school (e.g. 8th grade),
  • want to prepare for upper secondary school, or
  • feel unsure about fractions or percentages.

A little curiosity and willingness to learn are all you need! 😊  

Course schedule

The course is divided into several lessons that you can complete in any order and at your own pace. Each lesson includes:

📝 Self-assessment questions – to review and practice  

🏁 Final quizzes – to check your learning progress

At the end of the course, you’ll receive a certificate of participation if you correctly answer at least 75% of the questions.

The entire course takes about 5 to 8 hours depending on your pace. You can start, pause and resume anytime – whenever it suits you!

For actively participating in the course you will receive an automatic certificate which includes your name, the course name as well as the completed lessons. We want to point out that this certificate merely confirms that you answered at least 75% of the self-assessment questions correctly.
