Tech2Match - Technologies for patients with pain

General information about the MOOC series

Technology is an indispensable part of healthcare; however, research indicates that currently, healthcare professionals’ skills may not be updated to accommodate how to use technologies in cooperation with patients, and there is still a lack of implementation of relevant technology. The course addresses how healthcare professionals can apply digital technology – in specific mobile applications, monitoring, telehealth and virtual reality – constructively and critically for people with acute or chronic pain. The course consists of two parts: 1) MOOC learning activities (here on imoox.at) and 2) resources available through the TECH2MATCH homepage. All learning activities take a blended approach, and materials are available free and include reading materials, learning videos, quizzes, interactive activities, and real-life scenarios.

Who is it for?
This series is designed for healthcare professionals and students as well as lecturers work in healthcare education.

What are the goals?
The goals of the series is for participants to become familiar with a range of technologies used for pain assessment and treatment, enhancing their technological skills and ability to effectively apply these technologies to patients with pain.

How does it work?
Through completing the five courses in our series, a balanced and reflective attitude toward technology in healthcare will be fostered, and participants will be guided on how to support patients using technology, ensuring a human-centered approach to care. Specifically, participants will obtain knowledge about pain, its origin, models, theories, and mechanisms. They will develop skills in using technology to facilitate communication, evaluation, and management of pain while addressing the ethical implications of technology use in different healthcare contexts. Competencies in problem-solving, decision-making, and communication will be fostered through real-life scenarios, and participants will become competent in selecting and adjusting technology based on patient characteristics, clinical environment, and cultural background while addressing usability challenges, risks, and data management.

Who are we?
The team responsible for the Tech2Match course is an interdisciplinary group consisting of physiotherapists, an occupational therapist, nurses, a midwife, an engineer, and a media designer. The team came together, in an Erasmus+ funded project, to create and teach this course from four higher educational institutions across Europe. The team has a very diverse professional and educational background, but everyone has a passion for healthcare education and technology.
