Contenu du cours
The diversity of problems in computer science makes it impossible to give a brief or complete definition of computer science.
It is also impossible to cover all topics in a three-week introductory course.
However, we have to start at some point...
So we've tried to select the most important concepts/basics and ideas of computer science and teach them in such a way that the participants can quickly get a broader picture of computer science.
Furthermore, it should be possible for the participants to identify and create connections between topics.
Objectifs du cours
The course participants acquire skills in the following knowledge domains:
- Introduction: history, milestones, definition of "Computer Science", data-information-knowledge.
- Information processing systems: hardware-software, input-process-output, number system, logic
- Computational thinking skills: definition of "Computational Thinking", properties of algorithms, from an algorithm to an executable program
- Programming: first steps with Python, basic elements and concepts of programming
- Internet: functional principle and technologies
- Digital ethics: selected social aspects of information technologies
Connaissances antérieures
There is no previous knowledge expected.
Procédure du cours
The course consists of 6 lessons. The individual lessons include:
- introductory videos and additional materials as input
- (interactive) exercises and tasks for practical application and consolidation
- self-assessment-questions concerning the acquired knowledge and understanding
Note: Every week, 2 lessons are released.
Certificat
For actively participating in the course you will receive an automatic confirmation of participation (certificate) which includes your username, the course title, course duration as well as the hours required to complete the course. We want to point out that this certificate merely confirms that the user answered at least 75% of the self-assessment questions correctly.

ECTS credits
This MOOC is also offered as part of the courses 706.161 "Informatik-Fit, VO" and 706.160 "Informatik-Fit, UE" at Graz University of Technology.
(VO = lecture, UE = practical, LV = course).
To participate in the courses, it is necessary that you are registered at Graz University of Technology and that you
register in TUGRAZonline by 10.09.2024 at the latest for the courses of the same name (LV-Nr.: 706.160 and/or LV-Nr.: 706.161). Registration is possible from 01.08.2024.
- The courses (VO and UE) can be completed independently of each other.
- Two lessons are activated per week, starting on 09.09.2024.
- The course will be held in German.
➡️ For course 706.161 "Computer Science-Fit, VO" you have to
- be registered for the course in TUGRAZonline. One day after registration you can access the course material in the TU Graz TeachCenter.
- choose the option "Login eduID" and "Technische Universität Graz" when registering on iMooX.at and log in with your access data.
- actively participate in the MOOC in September 2024.
- participate in the lecture exam. The exam dates will be announced in time via TeachCenter and in the first lecture on 09.09.2024 from 10:00 - 11:00 in HS E (NT01088).
➡️ For course 706.160 "Informatik-Fit, UE" you have to
- be registered for the course in TUGRAZonline. One day after registration you can access the course material in the TU Graz TeachCenter.
- actively participate in the MOOC in September 2024.
- complete the given assignments posted on TeachCenter as of 09.09.2024 and submit your solutions via TeachCenter by the deadline. You can find the submission deadlines for each assignment in the TeachCenter. They will also be announced in the first lecture.
➡️ You can voluntarily participate in the tutorials (see scheduled dates and location in TUGRAZonline or TeachCenter).
There you can ask questions about the contents of the MOOC/the exercises. In addition, individual topics will be repeated and deepened.
The first lecture will take place on 09.09.2024 from 10:00 - 11:00 at TU Graz and can also be viewed in the live stream, link is provided in the TeachCenter. The course organization will be discussed there. You will find the room details in the associated TeachCenter course.
