General Course Information

This course was initiated by the Elektroschutz Gemeinnützige Privatstiftung (Electrical Safety Foundation Vienna) and was created in two parts by the foundation and TU Graz with the help of numerous top-class experts in the field of electrical safety. This course is now a combination and further development of the two partial courses.

Content

Course Content

The aim of the course is to give participants an overview of the comprehensive subject area of electrical safety. On the one hand, basic knowledge of the subject will be conveyed, along with historical aspects. On the other hand, technical, scientific, and legal details of electrical safety will be introduced to a specialist audience through specific units. It will be shown that electrical safety is the basis for a safe use of electricity.

Course Goals

Knowing the effects of electric current on humans and livestock.
Knowing the terms body impedance, contact voltage and body currentsKnowing some of the pioneers of electrical protection and their achievements.Understanding and being able to apply the 5 safety rules.
Understanding the essential parameters of electrical protection.
Distinguishing between protective devices and know their areas of application.Knowing the 3-stage protection concept and be able to classify the protective measures.Distinguishing between the individual mains systems and be able to deal with their special features for protection against electric shock.Understand the fault protection measure "TN-System".Knowing the basics of electrotechnical standardisation and the legal framework for the use of electricity.Knowing working methods in electrical installations, role models and organisation of work in accordance with EN 50110.
